Federal workers are reporting significant anxiety and “PTSD” as they anticipate a possible return of Donald Trump to the White House, according to a recent report. During a CNN segment, correspondent René Marsh highlighted concerns among the two million government employees, many fearing widespread dismissals in the event of a second Trump term. One employee described the situation as a “dystopian hellscape,” reflecting widespread unease. Trump’s campaign includes plans to reinstate Schedule F, an executive order from 2020 that would allow the dismissal of federal workers by designating them as at-will employees, making it easier to remove them.

Ronald Sanders, who previously served under Trump, warned that such a measure could be used to replace career civil servants with loyalists. Anxiety is particularly pronounced in agencies like the Energy Department and the Environmental Protection Agency, where workers fear losing their jobs. Marsh noted that Trump’s view of federal workers as “deep state” operatives working against his agenda has contributed to the trauma many employees report. In response, the Biden administration has introduced new regulations to protect federal workers, making it more difficult to redesignate them as political appointees or at-will employees, aiming to reduce partisan interference and safeguard civil service integrity.
