A bullet struck a Southwest Airlines airplane preparing for departure from Dallas Love Field Airport on Friday evening, forcing the cancellation of Flight 2494. The Boeing 737-800 was hit on the right side, just below the flight deck, around 8:30 p.m. while taxiing before its scheduled flight to Indianapolis. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Upon impact, the aircraft returned to the gate, and passengers were evacuated. Law enforcement was contacted, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident. The plane was removed from service, and Southwest Airlines arranged an alternative flight for the affected passengers.

The Dallas Police Department responded to the situation, and the airport temporarily closed runway 13R/31L. However, operations resumed shortly after, with minimal disruption to the airport’s overall activity.

Southwest Airlines emphasized that safety is its top priority, and while the incident did cause a delay, it assured travelers that all necessary precautions were taken. The cause of the gunfire remains under investigation, but the event highlights the potential risks of aviation safety and the importance of vigilance at airports.
