In a thrilling, marathon game, freshman Nate Frazier ran for a 2-point conversion in the eighth overtime to secure No. 6 Georgia’s 44-42 victory over Georgia Tech on Friday night. Despite being dominated for much of the game and trailing 17-0 at halftime, the Bulldogs (10-2, No. 7 CFP) mounted an improbable comeback, potentially locking up a spot in the College Football Playoff, even with next week’s SEC Championship still ahead.
Carson Beck threw five touchdown passes, two in overtime, and the Bulldogs never led until after regulation ended 27-all. Georgia Tech (7-5), led by Haynes King, was in control for much of the game. King ran for three touchdowns and threw two more, but Georgia Tech’s losing streak to Georgia extended to seven.
The game’s turning point came with 5:37 remaining, when King gave Georgia Tech a 27-13 lead. The Bulldogs responded with a quick 75-yard drive, capped by a 17-yard touchdown from Beck to Dominic Lovett. A key fumble by King gave Georgia the ball back, and Beck tied the game with a 3-yard pass to Lovett with 1:01 left.
Overtime ensued, with both teams exchanging touchdown passes and 2-point conversions. Finally, in the eighth overtime, Frazier’s 3-yard run sealed the win.
