President Joe Biden signed 50 bills into law on Tuesday, cementing key priorities before his term ends. Among the new laws, one designates the bald eagle as the nation’s official bird, while another prevents members of Congress convicted of crimes from collecting pensions.
Biden also established the first federal anti-hazing standard to address violence and deaths on college campuses. In a move supported by Paris Hilton, he signed a bill holding treatment centers and care facilities for youth more accountable.
Earlier in December, Biden vetoed legislation to add 66 judges to understaffed federal courts. He commuted the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates, converting them to life without parole, and issued a full pardon to his son, Hunter Biden.
As his presidency winds down, Biden is prioritizing infrastructure funding and military aid for Ukraine. His administration is working to disburse previously approved funds for domestic projects and international support before handing power to President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.
