Japan Airlines (JAL) announced Thursday that its systems are back online following a cyberattack earlier in the day that caused delays to some domestic and international flights. The attack, which began at 7:24 a.m., impacted internal and external systems, forcing the airline to halt same-day ticket sales for flights scheduled to depart on Thursday.
JAL identified and temporarily shut down a malfunctioning router linked to the disruptions. The airline confirmed no customer data was leaked and reported no damage from computer viruses.
Japan’s other major carrier, ANA Holdings, confirmed its systems were unaffected by any cyberattacks, according to a spokesperson.
Separately, American Airlines briefly grounded all flights earlier this week due to a technical glitch involving network hardware. The incident, which occurred on Christmas Eve, caused significant disruptions for thousands of travelers.
JAL’s swift resolution of the issue minimized further impacts, allowing operations to return to normal later in the day.
