Kinder Morgan announced that two of its fuel pipelines in Los Angeles have been shut down since January 8 due to power outages caused by the city’s ongoing wildfires. The company confirmed that the 515-mile SFPP West pipeline and the 566-mile CALNEV pipeline were not directly affected by the fires but are currently non-operational until power is restored.

The SFPP West pipeline transports fuel from the Los Angeles Basin to Colton and Imperial, California, and Phoenix, Arizona. Meanwhile, the CALNEV pipeline moves gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from Colton to terminals in Barstow and Las Vegas. A West Coast fuel trader commented on the disruption, noting that the shutdown could impact fuel supply to major cities such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, and San Diego, stressing the importance of inventory levels for these markets.

As of January 3, California refineries had about 5.2 million barrels of CARB gasoline in stock, and no refinery outages have been reported due to the fires. However, more than 300,000 customers in California were without power on Thursday, according to Southern California Edison. The pipelines are expected to resume service once the power supply is restored.
