Teamsters union members at Costco Wholesale (COST.O) have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a nationwide strike as negotiations for a new contract approach a critical Jan. 31 deadline.
Representing over 18,000 Costco workers, the union announced on Sunday that 85% of its members supported the strike authorization. In a post on X, Teamsters attributed the vote to the company’s “continued failure to bargain constructively.”
The current master agreement between the union and Costco is set to expire on Jan. 31. Despite the looming deadline, Costco has not provided a comment regarding the situation, according to Reuters.
The union confirmed that the final round of negotiations began on Jan. 20, signaling a pivotal moment for both parties to resolve their differences and avoid a potential strike.
