Michael Grimes, a technology banker at Morgan Stanley, is in discussions to leave his position for a role within U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, according to the Wall Street Journal. While the specific role remains unclear, reports suggest that Grimes may be joining the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory group led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. DOGE is focused on overhauling the federal government, aiming to reduce costs by dismantling federal agencies and slashing three-quarters of government jobs.

Grimes’ potential role within the administration could be broad, with some sources indicating he may take on a more general position, though details are still under wraps.

Trump appointed Musk to co-lead DOGE in November with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who recently stepped down to pursue his political campaign. Musk’s appointment has increased his influence within the administration, after he contributed millions to support Trump’s election. The department’s goal of creating a leaner and more efficient government continues to be a key focus of the administration, with the ambitious vision of reshaping the structure of the U.S. government.
