The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee will vote Tuesday on President Donald Trump’s nominee for Director of National Intelligence, former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard. A source familiar with the process said the vote is expected to be close.
The committee, consisting of nine Republicans and eight Democrats, will decide whether to recommend Gabbard’s nomination to the full Senate. Lawmakers from both parties have raised concerns about her qualifications for the role.
Gabbard, 43, is a former Democrat and combat veteran but lacks significant intelligence experience. Her nomination has drawn skepticism from both sides of the aisle, with some questioning whether she is prepared to oversee the 18 U.S. intelligence agencies.
If approved by the committee, her nomination will advance to the full Senate, where another contentious vote is likely.
