Gavin Kliger, a Berkeley-educated computer scientist, is working with Elon Musk to overhaul the U.S. government. He lists himself as a “Special Advisor” at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which is leading efforts to shrink the federal workforce. His USAID email was copied on a message advising staff to stay home amid agency shutdowns.
Kliger, who graduated from UC Berkeley in 2020, has posted and shared content from white supremacist Nick Fuentes and self-described misogynist Andrew Tate. In a now-hidden post, he suggested it would be “more convenient” to deport migrants if they remained in shelters. Reuters confirmed his Berkeley attendance but could not verify other profile details.
Kliger’s role in OPM remains unclear. When questioned about his posts, OPM declined to comment, and Kliger did not respond. After Reuters’ inquiry, he restricted access to his X account.
Marko Elez, another member of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team, resigned following reports linking him to racist and eugenicist views. Trump and VP JD Vance later called for his reinstatement.
Edward Coristine, also part of DOGE, was previously fired from Path Network amid a leak investigation, as confirmed by the company.
A White House official stated Musk and his team have proper security clearances and are acting within federal law.
