Anne Hathaway has officially confirmed her return to the much-anticipated ‘Princess Diaries 3’ via an Instagram post. In a nostalgic video, Hathaway counted to three while clips from her earlier days as Princess Mia Thermopolis and scenes of Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse Renaldi playfully shouting, “Shut up!” were shown, delighting fans.
Director Adele Lim, known for writing Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) and recently making her directorial debut with the comedy Joy Ride (2023), is set to helm the third film. Lim’s experience includes working as a writer and producer on popular shows like One Tree Hill and Lethal Weapon, as well as penning the screenplay for Crazy Rich Asians.
Hathaway, who has been busy with her several recent projects, including The Idea of You and She Came to Me, will once again step into the shoes of Mia Thermopolis, the awkward teenager who finds out she’s a royal. Princess Diaries 3 is set to be produced by Debra Martin Chase, with Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack as executive producers. Whereas Flora Greeson will write the screenplay.
The original Princess Diaries debuted in 2001, giving Hathaway her breakout role, and was followed by The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004. While Julie Andrews has expressed uncertainty about her return, fans are eagerly speculating about the rest of the cast. Social media lit up following the news, with fans especially being vocal about their desire to see Chris Pine reprise his role as Nicholas Devereaux, Mia’s love interest from the second film.As excitement builds for the third instalment, audiences are left wondering if other beloved characters from the original cast will mark their return or not!
