Danielle Hegseth, former sister-in-law of Pete Hegseth, submitted an affidavit to senators alleging abuse by President Trump’s Pentagon nominee. She claimed Hegseth’s second ex-wife, Samantha Hegseth, once hid in a closet for safety and used a crisis code word to signal for help.

Danielle alleged Pete was emotionally abusive, made offensive remarks, and displayed alcohol-related issues. She stated he shouted “No means yes!” at a bar in 2013, implying disregard for consent.

Pete Hegseth has denied the accusations, and Samantha told NBC News there was no physical abuse during their marriage. A 2021 Minnesota court document, signed by both Pete and Samantha, stated no abuse findings existed.

Senator Jack Reed, the Senate Armed Services Committee’s top Democrat, expressed concern over Hegseth’s suitability, citing allegations of abuse, misconduct, and excessive drinking.

Hegseth also faced scrutiny for a 2017 sexual assault allegation, financial mismanagement in veterans’ organizations, and being deemed an “insider threat” during Biden’s inauguration. He denied wrongdoing but pledged to abstain from alcohol if confirmed.

The accusations add pressure as the Republican-led Senate prepares for a confirmation vote, with Hegseth needing nearly unanimous Republican support.
