Amazon has announced a $1 million donation to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund and will also air the event on its Prime Video service, contributing an additional $1 million in kind. This brings Amazon’s total contribution to $2 million. The donations were confirmed by an Amazon spokesperson and first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Amazon joins Meta Platforms (META.O), which has pledged $1 million to support the inauguration. In a related development, Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and executive chairman, is set to meet with Trump next week, as confirmed by the president-elect in a CNBC interview.
Trump has previously criticized The Washington Post’s coverage of his presidency. The Post, owned by Bezos, did not issue an endorsement for any candidate in the 2020 presidential election, a decision that notably withheld support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, as reported by National Public Radio.
Bezos addressed the lack of endorsement in an opinion piece, explaining that many people believe the media is biased, and stressing that it was crucial for The Washington Post and other media outlets to strengthen their credibility.
