President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made a rare joint appearance Sunday to thank donors who raised over $2 billion during the 2024 election cycle, despite their loss. Speaking at a Democratic National Committee holiday event, they called on Democrats to remain steadfast in their values.

“Our spirit is not defeated. We are not defeated,” Harris declared. “We are strong and clear about why we’re in this. We cannot let any circumstance or individual take away our power. We know what we stand for, and that’s what we fight for.”

Biden echoed her sentiments, emphasizing resilience. “My dad used to say, when you get knocked down, you just have to get up. The measure of a person—or a party—is how fast they get up.”

The Nov. 5 election results were a major blow for Democrats, as Harris lost all seven battleground states, the Electoral College, and the popular vote to Donald Trump. The loss has sparked internal divisions, with party members blaming strategy, leadership, and voter outreach.

Harris and Biden’s joint appearance—alongside their spouses—was an attempt to project unity after months of political turmoil. Biden had dropped out of the presidential race in July, and the two had seldom been seen together in public since.

Looking ahead, Harris’ political future remains uncertain, with some urging her to run for governor of California, her home state. Biden, who will leave office on January 20, has vowed to remain active in politics, focusing on healing the nation’s divisions.

Jokingly addressing his plans, Biden said, “The bad news for you all is I ain’t going nowhere. We’re staying engaged.”
