Two California women, Tara Kehidi and Teresa Araujo, were forced off a Spirit Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans for wearing crop tops. According to reports, the incident unfolded when the pair, initially wearing sweaters, removed them due to the heat onboard, revealing their crop tops. Kehidi shared that they were approached by a male flight attendant who instructed them to cover up, asking them to put their sweaters back on. When they questioned the flight attendant about the dress code, specifically asking to see a policy that prohibited crop tops.
The women from California felt humiliated, describing how other passengers watched them during the interaction. “It was embarrassing. They treated us like criminals,” Araujo told media. They were eventually removed from the plane, allegedly for violating the airline’s clothing standards.
Spirit Airlines later confirmed that their Contract of Carriage includes clothing guidelines. The policy states that passengers may be removed from flights for being “inadequately clothed” or wearing items deemed “lewd, obscene, or offensive.” However, the contract doesn’t specifically mention crop tops. The airline is currently investigating the situation and is in contact with both the women regarding their experience.
