Prosecutors have dismissed charges against Dr. Eithan Haim, a Texas doctor accused of accessing patient records illegally at Texas Children’s Hospital. Haim, who calls himself a whistleblower on transgender care for minors, was charged with violating federal privacy laws.

The case was dropped shortly after President Donald Trump returned to office. It also followed the resignation of U.S. Attorney Alamdar Hamdani, appointed by former President Joe Biden. Haim’s lawyer, Ryan Patrick, welcomed the decision, calling the charges “unfounded.”

Prosecutors said Haim used his credentials in 2023 to access and leak medical records of children who were not his patients. He reportedly aimed to expose the hospital’s transgender care program. Haim had worked at the hospital during his residency.

The case faced criticism from conservatives, who called it political targeting. After taking office, Trump’s administration began reversing Biden-era policies that supported LGBTQ rights. On Monday, Trump signed an order stating the government would only recognize two sexes—male and female—based on birth.

Haim celebrated the dismissal on social media, claiming the charges were “weaponized” by the Biden administration to target political opponents. His trial, originally set for February 10, has been canceled. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has not commented on the case.
