Five Democratic lawmakers from Connecticut reported being targeted by bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving, though no explosive devices were found. U.S. Representatives Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, John Larson, and Joe Courtney released statements condemning the threats and emphasizing the need for peace and civility during the holiday season.

Hayes disclosed that police had informed him of an email stating a pipe bomb had been placed in his mailbox. However, authorities found no explosives, and the investigation remains ongoing. Local media also reported that Senator Chris Murphy was among those targeted. The U.S. Capitol Police has not commented on the incidents.

The threats follow a troubling trend of politically motivated intimidation. Swatting, a false police report designed to provoke an armed response at a victim’s location, has increasingly been used to harass public figures. This week, several of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet and administration picks were also subjected to similar threats.

A spokesperson for Trump’s transition team confirmed that swatting incidents and bomb threats were reported on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Law enforcement experts view such acts as dangerous forms of harassment aimed at instilling fear.

“There is no place for political violence in this country,” said Himes, urging a commitment to civility. Despite the threats, no injuries or damages were reported, and investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
