Former US President Donald Trump has strongly rejected claims made by journalist Bob Woodward in his upcoming book ‘War’. According to the book, Trump allegedly had multiple post-presidency phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and even secretly sent Putin a COVID-19 testing kit during the early stages of the pandemic.
The book, as reported by media outlets, cites an anonymous aide from Trump’s camp. It suggests that Donald Trump sent the testing kit when tests were scarce, with Putin allegedly responding, “Don’t tell anyone, they’ll get mad at you, not me.”Trump, flatly denies the allegations. In an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, Trump dismissed both claims as false. “That’s completely untrue,” Trump said, refuting the reports of post-White House communication with Putin or sending any testing kit. He also criticized Woodward, calling him “a storyteller”.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, doubled down on the denial, labelling Woodward’s accounts as fabricated. He condemned the claims as “made-up stories”. He emphasized that Trump never gave Woodward any access for the book & dismissed the journalist’s work as unsubstantiated fiction. Cheung also condemned the claims as “made-up stories” from a “demented man” suffering from what he termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Woodward’s upcoming book ‘War’ has already generated buzz for its claims of insider details on Donald Trump’s presidency and interactions with global leaders. Whether these allegations will stir further controversy or be dismissed as part of the ongoing political battles remains to be seen, but Trump’s camp is clearly prepared to fight back against the book’s release.
