Ford Motor and General Motors each pledged $1 million and vehicles to support U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s January inauguration, company spokespersons confirmed Monday.
Detroit automakers like Ford are closely watching the incoming administration’s policies on tariffs and electric vehicles. Trump has proposed broad tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada and plans to eliminate an EV tax credit that benefits automakers like Ford, which is working to expand its electric vehicle sales.
Ford CEO Jim Farley expressed optimism about engaging with Trump on these issues. “Given Ford’s role in the U.S. economy, the administration will likely value our perspective,” Farley said.
General Motors similarly announced its $1 million donation and vehicle contribution.
Other major companies, including Amazon and Meta, have also supported the inauguration. Trump raised a record $106.7 million for his 2017 festivities, far exceeding the $61.8 million raised by Democratic President Joe Biden for his 2021 inauguration. Biden’s contributors included Pfizer, AT&T, and Boeing.
