Rudy Giuliani, former NYC mayor and Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, reached a settlement on Thursday, agreeing not to defame two Georgia election workers he falsely accused of election fraud. The agreement allows Giuliani to keep his Palm Beach condominium and Manhattan apartment.

The workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss, had won a $148 million defamation judgment against Giuliani after he falsely claimed they helped steal the 2020 election for Joe Biden. However, the settlement compensates them, though details of the amount were not disclosed.

Giuliani did not admit liability or wrongdoing but agreed to stop making defamatory statements about Freeman and Moss. His statement, read by his lawyer, urged others to do the same. The settlement prevents a trial that could have forced Giuliani to give up his property, including three Yankees World Series rings. Giuliani, who declared bankruptcy after the defamation ruling, had already surrendered some assets to help cover the judgment.

Freeman and Moss expressed relief, stating they can now move forward with their lives. The legal battle stemmed from Giuliani’s false claims in 2021 about the women’s involvement in a ballot-rigging scheme at an Atlanta voting site. Giuliani has been found in contempt of court twice in this case. He faces criminal charges in two states for attempting to overturn the 2020 election result.
