Democratic Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania conceded the final outstanding Senate race of the 2024 U.S. election on Thursday, solidifying a stronger Republican majority in the upper chamber of Congress. Casey acknowledged his narrow defeat to Republican Dave McCormick after a recount confirmed the results of one of the closest races in Pennsylvania’s history. The margin of victory was less than a quarter of a percentage point. In a video message posted on X, Casey expressed gratitude to his supporters and affirmed the integrity of the electoral process.

With this win, Republicans will hold 53 seats in the 100-member Senate, boosting their ability to support President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. This majority grants them control over confirming Trump’s executive and judicial appointments. However, the Republicans remain shy of the 60-vote threshold required to bypass filibusters and swiftly advance most legislation.

The new Senate composition underscores the Republican Party’s enhanced influence heading into 2025. Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, Republicans maintain a slim majority over Democrats. These developments set the stage for potential legislative.
