White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made her first briefing appearance on Tuesday, engaging in heated exchanges with reporters and emphasizing that President Donald Trump will remain the administration’s primary voice.
“The president is the best spokesperson this White House has,” Leavitt said, promising frequent updates from both her and Trump. Since taking office on Jan. 20, Trump has flooded the media with his presence, sharply contrasting his predecessor, Joe Biden, who often avoided extensive press interactions.
Trump has already spent hours answering reporters’ questions, including multiple impromptu sessions aboard Air Force One. Last Friday, he addressed the press eight times while traveling to North Carolina and California. “You’re getting a little bit more access to the president than last time—by about 5,000%,” Trump quipped. He also repeated false claims, such as linking California wildfires to water conservation policies.
At 27, Leavitt is the youngest White House press secretary in history. During her 46-minute briefing, which Trump reportedly watched from the White House, she criticized media bias against him and pledged to give conservative voices—including bloggers and influencers—greater access.
When asked whether she would lie to the press, Leavitt denied it and turned the question back on reporters, accusing mainstream media of spreading misinformation about Trump. “We will call you out when your reporting is wrong,” she said. “I will hold myself to the truth, and I expect everyone in this room to do the same.”
