Some U.S. military branches are preparing lists of weapons programs they want to cancel ahead of potential cuts by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Members of DOGE are expected at the Pentagon as early as Friday, according to defense officials. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he had spoken with Musk and expressed confidence in the initiative to eliminate waste and save billions.

“There’s plenty of places where we want the keen eye of DOGE, but we’ll do it in coordination,” Hegseth stated.

President Donald Trump previously said he expects Musk’s audit to uncover hundreds of billions of dollars in fraud and abuse at the Pentagon.

The Pentagon declined to comment on the report.
