Sugar Foods is recalling its 3.5-ounce bags of Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style due to contamination with a wheat allergen, according to the FDA. The affected products have UPC Code 7 87359 17504 6 and a best-by date of June 20, 2025. The recall affects distribution centers in 20 states, including California, Florida, Texas, and Virginia, where the product was shipped between September 30 and November 11, 2024.
The issue arose after a consumer reported finding Crispy Onion Strips, which contain wheat, inside a Tortilla Strips pouch. Wheat is not listed as an ingredient on the Tortilla Strips packaging, posing a risk of severe allergic reactions for individuals with wheat allergies or sensitivities. While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA warns consumers to return the product for a full refund or dispose of it.
This recall follows two others earlier this month. Organic carrots sold at major retailers like Trader Joe’s were recalled over potential E. coli contamination, and a listeria outbreak linked to Yu Shang Food, Inc. ready-to-eat meat resulted in one infant death and 10 illnesses.
Consumers should exercise caution and check their purchased products to avoid potential health risks.
