Toyota Motor (7203.T) reported a 10th consecutive monthly drop in global production in November, with output falling 6.2% year-on-year to 869,230 vehicles. This decline was sharper than October’s 0.8% dip. U.S. production fell 11.8%, despite resumed manufacturing of the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX SUVs after a four-month pause.
China production slipped 1.6%, a smaller drop than October’s 9% decline, supported by stronger local sales of the Granvia, Sienna, and electric bZ3 sedan, co-developed with BYD (002594.SZ). Toyota plans to build an independent Shanghai plant to produce Lexus EVs by 2027, according to Nikkei.
In Japan, accounting for a third of Toyota’s output, production dropped 9.3%, partly due to a two-day halt at its Fujimatsu and Yoshiwara plants. However, global sales rose 1.7% year-on-year to a record 920,569 vehicles in November, marking the second consecutive month of growth.
For January to November, global production fell 5.2% to 8.75 million vehicles, while sales declined 1.2%. The figures include Lexus vehicles but exclude group companies Hino (7205.T) and Daihatsu.
