President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that billionaire Elon Musk would be excluded from any government decisions related to space. The decision follows concerns over potential conflicts of interest as Musk leads efforts to reduce federal spending.

“So anything to do with possibly even space, we won’t let Elon partake in that,” Trump told reporters.

Musk, who serves as a senior adviser in the Trump administration, has been leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) since Trump’s second term began last month. The White House clarified that Musk is not a DOGE employee and has no direct decision-making authority. Officials also stated that Musk would excuse himself from any conflicts between his business interests and his government role.

Under Musk’s leadership, DOGE has initiated sweeping changes across federal agencies, cutting thousands of jobs in a bid to eliminate wasteful spending.

Despite the exclusion from space-related matters, Trump expressed confidence in Musk’s role. “Elon is, to me, a patriot,” Trump said. “You could call him an employee, you could call him a consultant—whatever you want, but he’s a patriot.”
