President-elect Donald Trump has announced key ambassadorial appointments, naming Kimberly Guilfoyle as the next U.S. ambassador to Greece and Tom Barrack as ambassador to Turkey. Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host turned political fundraiser, has been engaged to Donald Trump Jr. since December 2020.
“Kimberly has been a close friend and ally for many years,” Trump said on Truth Social, praising her ability to strengthen U.S.-Greece ties. He highlighted her suitability for fostering cooperation in defense, trade, and economic innovation.
These selections are part of a trend in Trump’s appointments involving close personal connections. In November, he announced plans to nominate Charles Kushner, father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Massad Boulos, Tiffany Trump’s father-in-law, was also tapped as a senior adviser on Middle East issues.
Barrack, chair of Trump’s 2016 inaugural committee and a private equity executive, has a longstanding friendship with the president-elect. He faced legal challenges in 2021, charged with acting as an unregistered agent for the UAE, but was acquitted of all charges in 2022.
Describing Barrack as a “well-respected and experienced voice of reason,” Trump expressed confidence in his ability to represent U.S. interests in Turkey.
These appointments underscore Trump’s reliance on trusted allies to fill key diplomatic roles as he prepares to assume office.
