On Monday, President Donald Trump issued an order recognizing only two unchangeable sexes, male and female, as part of a sweeping reversal of policies supporting LGBTQ+ rights and racial equity. The order mandates the use of the term “sex” instead of “gender” in government documents, including passports and visas, defining identity strictly by biological classification.

Fulfilling campaign promises to undo Biden-era initiatives, Trump repealed 78 executive orders signed by his predecessor. This includes key measures aimed at combating discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation and advancing racial equity for underserved communities.

Among the rescinded orders were Biden’s first-day initiatives to address racial inequities and protect LGBTQ+ individuals. Additional repeals targeted policies supporting Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities.

Trump, in his inaugural address, vowed to end what he called “social engineering” of race and gender in public and private life. His administration’s move marks a dramatic departure from diversity and inclusion efforts prioritized under Biden’s presidency.
