Donald Trump’s transition team announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with the Justice Department, enabling the submission of names for background checks and security clearances necessary for accessing classified information. This development follows an earlier agreement signed last week, allowing direct coordination with federal agencies and access to documents. Talks had delayed the Justice Department agreement until now.

The transition team stated that this agreement would help its agency landing teams obtain the information needed to prepare for leadership roles in federal departments. “This agreement with the Department of Justice will ensure President Trump and his team are ready on Day 1 to begin enacting the America First Agenda that an overwhelming majority of our nation supported on Election Day,” said Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming chief of staff, in a statement.

Trump is set to take office on January 20. A Justice Department official confirmed that the agreement had been signed.

The delays in finalizing these agreements since the November 5 election had raised concerns among critics about potential disruptions in government operations or conflicts of interest during the transition period. However, the transition team reassured that these steps were critical for ensuring a smooth transfer of power and readiness for governance.
