USA Basketball moved closer to securing a spot in next year’s AmeriCup tournament with a commanding 97-74 victory over the Bahamas in Monday night’s qualifying game. Javonte Smart led the way with 21 points, while Jahmi’us Ramsey added 19 as the U.S. remained in control throughout the game.
The Americans now hold a 3-1 record in the qualifiers and need just one more win from their final two games in February to guarantee their place in the AmeriCup. The tournament, which serves as the championship for the FIBA Americas region, will be held in Nicaragua in August 2025.
Frank Kaminsky III contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while David Stockton chipped in with 14 points and six assists. A strong long-range performance helped the U.S. dominate, outscoring the Bahamas 45-21 from beyond the arc.
Tavario Miller stood out for the Bahamas, finishing with a team-high 20 points, but his efforts weren’t enough to overcome the Americans’ balanced attack and superior shooting. With this victory, the U.S. continues its push to reclaim dominance in the FIBA Americas region and secure a spot in the prestigious continental competition.
