An anonymous woman, known as Jane Doe, dismissed her civil lawsuit against hip-hop moguls Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs on Friday. The filing in Manhattan federal court confirmed that the case was voluntarily dropped with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled. The lawsuit, which accused Carter and Combs of raping her in 2000 when she was 13, was the only one to name Carter as a defendant.
Carter has denied the allegations, calling them “frivolous” and “fictitious,” and celebrated the dismissal as a victory. In a statement, he expressed relief, emphasizing the trauma caused to his wife, Beyoncé, and their children. His entertainment company, Roc Nation, also posted the statement online.
Combs, who is awaiting trial on criminal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, faces numerous other civil lawsuits from individuals accusing him of sexual assault. His attorneys have maintained his innocence in all the claims, including the dismissed lawsuit, and vowed to continue fighting these allegations in court.
Doe’s accusations alleged that the incident at a 2000 MTV Music Video Awards afterparty caused her to develop depression and PTSD, leaving her withdrawn from society. Despite the dismissal, Combs still faces legal battles, with several cases pending.
